  - Freddy vs. Jason (2003) -
AKA: Friday the 13th Part 11, Nightmare On Elm Street 8, A
It has been almost 10 years since one of the scariest horror characters of all time, Freddy Krueger, invaded the dreams of a generation to exact his deadly form of revenge and murder. Now, Freddy has entered into the dreams of another master of evil - the unstoppable Jason Voorhees -- plunging cinema's two greatest titans of terror into a battle to end all battles.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Synopsis

This movie Rocks, I rock. heehee

After being trapped in hell for quite some time, Freddy Krueger meets up with Jason Voorhees after Jason is sent to hell by Creighton Duke (forget part X; rewind to Friday the 13th Part IX). Krueger is able to disguise himself as Pamela Voorhees, and instructs Jason to start murdering on Elm Street upon his resurrection, therefore restoring Freddy's power as well. Jason does this task, drawing the attention of Tommy Jarvis, the only person to have single-handedly defeated Jason twice, and Alice, who has managed to defeat Freddy twice as well. However, once Jason realizes what Freddy has done, he is infuriated. Hellbent on vengence, Jason renews his bloodbath in pursuit of personally slaughtering Krueger, and anyone else in his path.

This movie was very entertaining. Now note, this is for the hardcore fans only. Dont go into this expecting a very scary movie. Its not. Its gory, entertaining and most of all, fun. The majority of the movie is freddy regaining his power and Jason Killing people, then towards the end, they face off. This movie kicked ass. I will own it on DVD and if I had the money to spend, I would see it many more times in the theater.

I give it 4 stars for kick ass movieness and another half star for the gratuidous nudity that makes us all love horror films. 4 and a half stars in all.

Lataz!!!

I just saw Requiem For A Dream tonight and I loved the movie. It's about the life of four junkies and how they think their lives are all going to be better but are just going down the drain. In the beginning it was all kinda slow but gradually the film proceeded faster and you could also see that in the shots which were more vivid and faster. There were some quite explicit images like needles being stuck into veins and a surprising amount of sex scenes. Either way I think it shocked a lot of people in a way but isn't that sometimes the best way to bring a message? I can imagine why the film was rated 16 hehe :P

The Hunted
(Tommy Lee Jones, Benicio Del Turo)

Synopsis: In the green woods of Silver Falls, Oregon, Aaron Hallam, a trained assassin AWOL from the Special Forces, keeps his own brand of wildlife vigil. After brutally slaying four deer hunters in the area, FBI Special Agent Abby Durrell turns to L.T. Bonham-- the one man who may be able to stop him. At first L.T. resists the mission. Snug in retirement, he's closed off to his past, the years he spent in the Special Forces training soldiers to become skilled murderers. But when he realizes that these recent slayings are the work of a man he trained, he feels obligated to stop him. Accepting the assignment under the condition that he works alone, L.T. enters the woods, unarmed--plagued by memories of his best student and riddled with gulit for not responding to Aaron's tortured letters to him as he began to slip over the edge of sanity. Furious as he is with his former mentor for ignoring his pleas for help, Aaron knows that he and L.T. share a tragic bond that is unbreakable. And, even as they go into their final combat against each other, neither can say with certainty who is "the hunted" and who is "the hunter."

Very good movie. I enjoyed it very very much. Very detailed, graphic, and to the point. You felt the mental anguish that Del Turos character went through. He really wasnt a bad guy, he was just so plauged with the images, sounds, and smells of all of his past missions that he began to lose his grip with sanity. There is a flashback scene in the movie where Tommy Lee Jones' character LT is flashbacking to his training days. Hes teaching Del Turo how to be an efficient killer. His words were " Im going to teach you how to become an efficient killing machine. It will be a reflex, second nature. Killing will be the easy part. The hard part will be turning it off."

I really cant go into more without spoiling the movie. I thought it was great and recommend it highly. 4 and a half stars!

A movie about a man's deceased wife trying to make contact with him. A rather suspenseful movie with a twist for the ending. Nobody warned me what was going to happen and I almost fell out of my chair at the ending! This is a great movie to watch on a Sunday afternoon when nothing else is going on :)

28 Days Later (2003)

Synopsis: After breaking into a primate research facility, a group of animal rights activists discover caged chimps chained up before banks of screens displaying horrifying, violent images. Ignoring the warnings of the terrified researcher who maintains that the chimps are infected, they begin to free the animals and are immediately subjected to a bloody attack from the enraged creatures. Twenty-eight days later, Cycle courier Jim awakes from a coma in the deserted intensive care unit of a London hospital. He wanders out into a church where he finds dead bodies piled in heaps on the chapel floor. A sudden explosion from a makeshift bomb heralds the arrival of fellow "survivors" Selina and Mark. They take Jim to safety and explain to him that this infection is transmitted by blood and overwhelms the infected victim with a murderous rage within seconds. Britain has been overrun, and they have no way of knowing if it has spread worldwide. Their only hope of survival may lie in the hands of a Manchester group of soldiers, as they claim to have the "answer" to infection and invite any survivors to join them at their blockade. Faced with no practical alternative, the group sets out northwards, unaware that the worst is yet to come.

Sounds like a cool movie doesnt it. Too bad it was boring as all hell. Kristel and I watched this yesterday. It has all of the ingredients to be a kick ass movie but the stale manner in which it was executed made this movie less than that. This is definately a movie for someone who enjoys cinema and loves to find symbolism in the way a director has a camera pan in a certain way. This isnt a movie for entertaining purposes. I love horror movies. I love watching gore. I love a movie that makes me jump. This movie only had some gore and nothing else. The only reason I kept watching was for sheer curiosity because I wanted to know how it ends. Thats it. Wait to see this movie on cable folks. Or borrow it from the library or a friend who has the bootleg (like I did). Dont waste money.

I give this movie 2 stars ONLY because of the creative story.

Donnie Darko-Wow! (Movie)
  scorpina_13

11:15pm 14/07/2003
This movie had me hanging on the edge of my seat the whole time! I turned the lights out and was absorbed into the movie! It's about a teenager (Donnie) who has a visitor from the future. This visitor gives Donnie advice. The visitor dresses as a large, freaky rabbit, and can only be seen by Donnie. Donnie has a lot of other strange things going on in his life, which really develope the plot. I found myself wondering "Is Donnie totally insane? Is he hallucinating? or is there really a visitor from the future?" The movie is totally twisted and ends up not where I expected it in the least. If you enjoy scary movies that actually have plots, this is definitely a good one to watch.

Did you ever wonder why some people get off on such weird stuff? (No offense if you're one of those people) The things people do, the things some people think are cool, and the things some people dream of doing make me really wonder sometimes. (I didn't get it) This book is a real eye-opener for that stuff! A lot of good info, and clues to understanding what makes people tick! I don't know if it's all accurate, but it definitely had some good possiblities. A lot of good pyschology loaded into this book

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen

This movie seemed very unique to me. The characters were made up of what seemed to be literary figures from books. The action scenes were great, the special effects good, the characters interesting. Each character would have made an interesting movie alone, but putting them together was something else altogether. I came away with the feeling that the movie was patched together and didn't run very smoothly. Everyone seemed to be running around, doing their own thing. I had a hard time identifying with any one character. Much of the technology was supposed to be "ahead of it's time"- and tended to be totally out of sync with the rest of the period. Not much in the way of teamwork (of the characters) Was it a good movie? I think so. Everyone that saw it said it was better than what they expected. Would I watch it again? Hmm...maybe on a DVD someday down the road. I would advise matinee on this one if you go to see it. Worth seeing, but not sure if it's worth the full price.

Wow! A book I started early in the day and didn't put down til it was done! I imagine this one is geared more toward the female population- it's more like a novel/fairy tale than anything else. It starts out with a princess whose life turns to hell basically. Her mother dies, her father decides to marry her, and ends up beating her up, raping her, leaving her and her dog for dead. She runs away, and that's when the book really begins. A great book about a girl and her dog, about being a part of nature...interesting twists in it that I didn't expect. Definitely a good read if you like fairy tales.

Ok, so Kristel and I have been movie watchin the last week so here are a few to review.

The first movie we saw:

Final Destination 2: Really cool movie. For those who dont know, the first Movie was about a french class was about to embark on a trip to France. One student gets on the plane and has a preminition that the plane is going to crash. He freaks out and a small riot ensues. Turns out 7 peole (6 students and a teacher) stay behind and are going to wait for the next flight. The plane they were on previously explodes. They cheated death and death didnt like that. So death began to take out the survivors one by one. They began to notice that death had a design and if they can break the design, they can cheat death. The sequel was the same. I enjoyed it very much. The death scenes were very graphic (just the way I like it) and very original. I recommend this movie to those who love horror and suspence and to those who loved the first one. 4 out of 5 stars.

Second Movie: Lord of the Rings: Two Towers.

Fuckin great. What else can I say. I loved the first one, I loved this one. I absolutely cannot wait until return of the king. I definately have to see that in the theater. I wish I saw this one on the big screen but hey, I dont love it any less. Gollum was an amazing CG character. You dont even really notice that he is an animated character. I give it 5 out of 5 just for being so damn cool!

Yeesterdays movie. Terminator 3: Rise of the machines.

Very good movie. Well done. Original chase scene. I wasnt too happy with the ending and I felt that the movies climax wasnt big. I was expecting more from this movie. A bit disappointing but good either way. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.

Also, I finished reading Alice in Wonderland. I still think it was a hard read. I felt myself wanting to just grab alice and shake her about while saying " Listen you stupid little kid, never ever eat, drink, or take anything from strangers and or strange places" "If you see giant Rabbit that actually talks... tell your mom to stop droppin tabs and force breast feeding you!"

Thats about it for now.

Lataz!!!

mood: Migrane... AGAIN!!!
Im reading "Alice in wonderland" by Lewis Carroll.

So far I have to say that Im not enjoying it very much. I find that it is a really hard read. Not that I dont understand the words, just that I find myself reading sentences over and over to find out what they mean. The sentences dont really flow. I sure that it was intentional and I know its fitting for the tyoe of story that is being told, but I cant see myself reading this to my children at night because I know I would have to stop and answer alot of question that I wouldnt be able to answer.

Im only in the 5th chapter so far. Im going to continue reading it to see if it begins to make some more sense (plus I hate not finishing things that i start, movies, books, etc.)

Hopefully by the time Im done reading, Ill have a better review.

A Bunch of Movies
  scorpina_13

08:14pm 29/06/2003
I got to see a couple of movies on my brother's satellite yesterday while doing our laundry:

Catch Me if You Can: Is this for real? At the end it gave more info on what happened- I think this was based off a real life story! It's about a 16 year old guy who impersonates people and becomes a con-artist, how he outwits everyone, including the F.B.I. I found this movie to be quite funny! It's great to see someone beat the system and someone smart enough to do it! I think almost anyone would like this movie. It's not super-thrilling but an all around good movie with a good plot.

Two Weeks Notice:
Definitely a romantic type chick-flick, but also it funny! A very bright female lawyer do-gooder goes to work for a wealthy corporation in exchange for them not tearing down a community center she is trying to save. Plus more! My brother, a friend and I all liked it! Good movie!

Demolition Man: Old movie! I got this one out of the library only to realize I've seen it years ago. Government is really out of control- everything is banned, even cussing! A criminal from the past has been released from cryogenic jail after being programmed to become a killing machine! A cop who made a big mistake and was also doing crygenic time was defrosted to go get him! This movie has it's moments...most of which were better back in the 90's when it came out. A lot of action and some funny jokes. Not bad, but I wouldn't watch it twice- even after 10 years have passed since I last saw it.

28 Days- Alcoholic woman trying to deal with her chaotic past goes into rehab or has to do jail time. Drama. I have to say in some ways this is one of the best movies I've seen in a while. It's not exciting, it's not that funny, but I came away from it a wiser person. It opened my eyes a little bit wider to what drug/alcohol/cutting abuse is all about. I used to think people did drugs and alcohol just to have fun, but now I have to wonder. Well, anyway, a somber movie- don't watch it if you are in the mood for something light-hearted. A good movie to watch if you want to understand people a little bit more.

The North Avenue irregulars- Dumb. I only watched about 5 minutes of it.

The Seventh Stream- This is a family film about a selkie that loses her skin and is forced to live as a woman on the land. This movie had a lot of romance and fairy-tale in it. What I liked the most were the gorgeous scenes from the coast of Ireland! The movie itself was fairly interesting, but didn't do a whole lot for me overall. I was hoping the selkie got pregnant and there would be a part II when she brings her baby seals up to meet their father.

Sorry to post so many at once- I realize I'm not the best reviewer in the world- but hey, it's all in good fun.

Movie Review: The Hulk
  chewy_aka_dave

11:05am 24/06/2003

mood: okay
Ok, so this weekend we went out and caught the matinee showing of the Hulk.
I guess the question of the day is... Was it good? Well, yes, but its all very subjective. Some people like movies that are intellectually stimulating, some people like ones that are visually stimulating, some like both, some dont like either, they want something quick, mindless, and straight to the point. People who fall in the latter category are NOT going to like this movie.

I give the movie a B minus rating. (A plus being the best and of course F being the worse).

Overall it was a very good. It was intellectually stimulating. It went deep into the psycological and scientific aspects of the hulk transformation, and the effects were for lack of better words, Kick Ass. The action scenes were great. They were fast paced, heart pounding and made me gasp on more than one occasion. Unfortunately, the actions scenes were few and far between all of the boring scientific and emotional scenes. Granted, those scenes were necessary in order to explain the back story and introduce the characters, but it made the movie drag in alot of spots. Same with X-men and the Matrix. The first movies had to spend time with the back story and character development, then when the sequels came out, they could go into faced paced story lines because we already knew who these people were, where they are, and what they can do. I believe, if and when they were to do a sequel, that it will absolutely blow people away and we could truly see the potential this character has as a movie franchise.

I think the biggest thing about the movie was that it was directed by Ang Lee the director of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (which won him an oscar), a fast paced, kick ass, ground breaking, martial arts movie. So most people myself included) were expecting alot of ground breaking action.

ok, ive bored you enough. Let me know what you guys think.

Lataz!!!

Various Reviews for June

06:37pm 23/06/2003
I just wanted to go over a few things from before starting the community:

Joe the King (movie): ok movie, I didn't like the ending. It's about a kid who has a very dysfunctional family. Joe seems to be doing the best he can to survive, yet society still blames him and punishes him. I think this movie made a sad statement about society.

What the Deaf Man Heard: A movie about a boy who pretends to be deaf and mute in response to being abandonned by his mother. He grows up and continues to pretend he's deaf and mute. This movie seemed to have a decent plot, if a little cheesy at times. I did enjoy the way the movie actually had a conclusion to why Joe's mother abandonned him and what happened after his ability to hear and speak were discovered. Not a bad movie- I wouldn't spend a lot of money renting it. Definitely watch it if you have nothing better to do.

Here's a book:
The lord of the rings : the two towers : photo guide. This seemed like a great book at first glance. It did have some good photos. However the photos don't even begin to compare to actually watching the movie. I'd advise sticking to the movie.

My brother watched The Hulk. He said it was pretty good, but started getting sketchy at the last 30 minutes. The picture was dark, and what was going on was difficult to understand.

He also saw Bruce Almighty. He said that the commercials gave the funniest parts away.

That's it for today...

The Dog of Flanders and Understanding Dreams
  scorpina_13

12:02am 21/06/2003

mood: really tired
I watched another flick from the Library- The Dog of Flanders. It actually pretty good for a family movie. It wasn't about the dog at all, but about the little boy who saved him. The scenery was great- lots of beautiful outdoor scenes. It looks like it took place around the 1800's or so- no electricity.

I'm reading Understanding Dreams by Keith Hearns and David Melbourne. (1999) A nice book! Lots of photos, with even graphs of sleep patterns. It has a lot of history about the beliefs of dreams and symbolism. The part of the book I'm reading now is about what modern research has uncovered. It tells about the different stages of sleep, when dreams and other experiences occur, what actually happens to the body, and other things. It's all written in layman language and easy to understand. It's been very educating so far. I'd highly recommend this book to anyone who is curious about sleep or dreams. Oh and by the way, they say that the name "Morpheus" was originally the name of the Greek God of Dreams.

Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell

If you haven't read this book yet, you surely must. The book is quite old and deals about the views of the author on the future (1984). He wrote the book in 1948 so yeah. He describes the layers of society and how they are being monitored by so called telescreens. It's in a way what we now see in for example the UK with the CCTV (Closed Ciruit TV) systems being installed everywhere, even in pubs. So basically everything you do is being monitored, not to the extent of your thoughts and feelings as in the book but you get my drift. This book never bores and makes you think about your privacy. A must read!
